Rural French Life visits the UK..

On our way back to the UK we stopped overnight in a place called Gapennes, it is a commune in the Somme department in Picardie in Northern France. We have stayed a couple of times now and really enjoy the ambience and the friendliness of the owners. The garden has lots of interesting features in it, as you can see in the photos below.

Home made Chutney, Pesto, Tomato & Chilli Soup and Coffee & Walnut Cake.....

I thought I would have a go at making some Chutney from my left over green Tomatoes, I made Nigel Slater's Mixed Tomato Chutney, a mixture of Red & Green Tomatoes.  Tastes delicious...

Home-made Pesto...I love pesto with hot pasta, very tasty with some crunchy bread and a glass of Red. I made it with Walnuts from the Garden.

Tomato & Chilli Soup, delicious for a Winter's day. Tomatoes from the garden along with the Chilli's.

Had to do a dessert, a delicious Coffee & Walnut cake.....

Lunch at Le Saint Jean in Nanteuil-en-Vallée

Le Saint Jean in Nanteuil is a very pretty Restaurant, you can dine outside sitting opposite the grand church in the village. Our meal was as expected superb, quality and quantity were outstanding, and great value for money. This restaurant is one of the 2 restaurants in the village, both of excellent cuisine.

Nanteuil-en-Vallée...a beautiful village.

Nanteuil en Vallée is famous for its Abbey (Notre Dame de Nanteuil) which was founded in around 780AD, there is the Parish church of Saint Jean Baptiste, and the nearby manor house of d'Aizecq. The village has a beautiful garden called l'Arboretum, on the bank of the River Argent-Or, complete with water features.

We took those photos when we had a lovely stroll around this stunning village on a beautiful day, after having a delicious lunch at the lovely Le Saint Jean restaurant.
