Our day in La Rochelle.

La Rochelle is a City in western France and a seaport on the Bay of Biscay, a part of the Atlantic ocean. It is the capital of the Charente-Maritime department.
La Rochelle was founded during the 10th century and became an important harbour in the 12th century.  La Rochelle's main feature is the "Vieux Port" (Old Harbour), which is at the heart of the city, picturesque and lined with seafood restaurants. The city walls are open to an evening promenade. The old town has been very well preserved.

La Rochelle has a very big Aquarium, and a small botanical garden (the Jardin des plantes de la La Rochelle)

We decided to visit La Rochelle for the day with family. the sun was shining and a beautiful blue sky. We had a beautiful walk along the old Town, and had a lovely meal in one of the Fish restaurants. It was nice to see people sat out side watching the world go by with their small espresso coffees...

Hubby's Birthday...what a great day we have had..

Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday to you..Happy Birthday dear hubby...Happy Birthday to you...

Started of hubbys birthday by going for a lovely walk. It was glorious sunshine with clear blue sky, a very pleasing sight after all the very depressing rain we have had... Although there wasn't much wildlife,  we could hear the birds singing away..  It is lovely seeing the buds sprouting on the trees,  a sure sign that Spring is around the corner...you can almost smell it..

After a quick cuppa, and a shower, we set of to the beautiful town of La Rochefoucauld, there stands proud, the beautiful Château of Rochefoucauld.. The restaurant we decided to eat for the birthday lunch was right at the side..a restaurant called Restaurant du Château...appropriately named  :-)

We had had the Menu du Jour as it sounded delicious and looked very tasty too.. Menu du Jour was only €13.70 , for 3 courses. Amazing value, especially as the quality and quantity was excellent. Fresh local produce....vraiment délicieux..
